About us

Since 2001 BGlug it has been a non-profit cultural association whose main purposes are the spread of free software, the Linux operating system in particular and the aggregation of users of the province of Bergamo of this system.

We believe in the meaning of the free and opensource software (Foss) which goes far beyond the merely technical or economic aspect.

In the last twenty years we have:

    • organized the local event of the Linux Day promoted by ILS
    • proposed events with schools such as [Bergamo Codejam]({{ relref . (dict “path” “/tags/code-jam/” “lang” “it”) }}) and [Paleocapa training] ()
    • promoted to use Linux at school with LibraSchool
    • helped schools during Covid and in the use of [voting machines]({{ relref . (dict “path” “/events/2018/2018-05-30-voting-machine/” “lang” “it”)}})
    • offered evening meetings on the most diverse topics for any level of study
    • collaborated with local authorities in public events
    • close collaborations and organized events in collaboration with FSFE
    • participated in the International event [Arduino Day]({{ relref . (dict “path” “/tags/arduino/” “lang” “it”)>}}) with Fablab

We think that the principles of sharing of knowledge that underlie free and openource software are formative and educational.

We believe that schools primarily should adopt it and we propose to support those that want to take this path and for this reason, in 2015 within the association, it was born LibraSchoolThe initiative that wants to help educational institutions to install Linux in their computer classrooms.

Since 2020 BGLUG is a guest of Fablab Bergamo which grant us the use of its spaces and with which we collaborate on many initiatives.

Every Tuesday evening we meet to compare ourselves informally, but also by organizing training meetings, on the evolution of free software. We are freely discussed by the news of the week, you listen to, we recommend on tools to use, on the problems faced during the week and how to deal with them. Obviously we help anyone who comes to visit us in the installation, updating and optimization of Linux machines.

We are open all year round, come and visit us.

Non-exhaustive list of the activities carried out at the Bglug:

    • informal discussions on free software
    • Organization of National Events (VD.LINUX DAY)
    • Organization of training courses on free software and open environments in general
    • Participation in groups in national and international events (see Merge-It, Fossdem, …)
